The Gaza War entered its 414th day, with bombing rates remaining consistent with the early stages of the conflict, particularly in the northern and central areas of the Strip. Israeli occupation forces conducted raids on several homes in the Zeitoun neighborhood and the Nuseirat camp. Drones targeted Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia for the second time since Thursday, injuring a doctor and numerous patients. The attack underscores the worsening humanitarian situation, as the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza warned that all hospitals in the besieged Strip could cease operations or significantly reduce services within 48 hours due to fuel shortages. This crisis persists amidst Israel’s refusal to allow fuel into the area. The United Nations reported that Israeli occupation forces blocked two-thirds of the 129 humanitarian aid operations planned for Gaza last week. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that in the past 48 hours, Israeli forces carried out seven massacres against civilians, resulting in 120 deaths and 205 injuries in hospitals. Many victims remain trapped under rubble or lying in the streets, inaccessible to ambulance and civil defense crews. As of now, the death toll from Israeli aggression has risen to 44,176, with 104,473 wounded since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023. In Lebanon, Israeli occupation forces continued their raids on areas such as Beirut and the southern suburbs. Hezbollah has persisted in resisting these incursions into southern villages, as well as the shelling of border settlements. The Lebanese Ministry of Health released updated statistics on Friday evening, reporting that the Israeli aggression on Lebanon has resulted in 3,645 deaths and 15,355 injuries. Among the casualties are 214 health sector workers, 231 children, and 1,365 additional individuals. Regarding the prospects for a political settlement, The New York Times quoted regional and American officials as saying that the outlines of a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon have begun to take shape. However, disagreements over specific details could obstruct progress. Meanwhile, Israeli Channel 12 reported that a key unresolved issue is the formation of a committee to oversee the implementation of the agreement.Man City routed 4-0 by Tottenham in fifth-straight defeatNoneRecent World Bank data provides another endorsement of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ’s economy, as Alan Austin reports. EXPORTERS FOUND 2023 to be a tough year. They were hit badly by low global economic growth, supply chain disruptions due to regional wars and high transport costs. Of the 35 advanced countries in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development ( OECD ) who reported last year’s exports to the World Bank , only three increased exports relative to gross domestic product (GDP) over 2022. Of these, Australia’s expansion was the strongest. This is another global win for the Albanese Labor Government. It follows the strong fiscal results recorded by the International Monetary Fund here and on employment as analysed here by I A colleague Stephen Koukoulas . These achievements stand in stark contrast to the ever-increasing list of the world’s worst outcomes that piled up under the Coalition. World Bank affirms Australia’s ascendancy The World Bank’s development indicators show export and import outcomes for 138 economies from 1974 to 2023. A surge in Australia’s exports occurred from 1984 through to 2001 as a result of the Hawke/Keating Administration freeing up the economy. See chart below. (Data source: World Bank ) From just $22.0 billion in sales to trading partners in 1983, the year Bob Hawke won office, exports surged to $76.9 billion by 1996 when Labor under Paul Keating lost office, then continued to climb to $123.4 billion by 2001. That was an impressive 22.2% of gross domestic product (GDP) — an all-time high. The Rudd Government then hit another high of 23.0% of GDP in 2009, when total annual exports clicked over $200 billion. Trade surged again in 2023 as the result of Labor’s commitment to regional collaboration , restoration of fractured relationships with neighbours, cutting tariffs and better economic management overall. The World Bank measured Australia’s 2023 exports at a record 26.7% of GDP. Australia returns as global leader As was shown during the disastrous Global Financial Crisis of 2008 to 2013, Australia’s Labor Party has an extraordinary gift for navigating troubled international waters. Of the 35 advanced OECD member economies for which the World Bank has recorded last year’s export volumes, 17 experienced a decline. These include normally robust economies Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Belgium. Only 18 increased their exports over the previous year. Just four managed an improvement of more than 5%. Australia ranked third with 6.5% behind Denmark and Costa Rica. See chart below. (Data source: World Bank ) Australia ranking third in the OECD on exports growth in 2023 contrasts with ranking 16th out of the 35 members under the Coalition in 2017, 19th in 2018 and dead last in 2021. Labor’s winning courtships Australia has recently signed or affirmed trade deals with the United Kingdom , India , Thailand , New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates , and has strengthened trade alliances elsewhere. Exports to Bahrain surged from an average of $982 million each year through the Coalition period to an impressive $1,921 million in the twelve months to September this year. Bahrain buys alumina, meat, dairy products and wheat. Mexico, which imports Australian cereals and other agricultural products, was even more impressive. Sales over the eight Coalition years from 2014 to 2021 averaged $346 million per year. This surged in the year to September 2023 to a thumping $952 million, which was almost equaled in the year to September 2024, at $934 million. Other countries currently buying record values of Australian goods include the USA, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Brunei, Fiji and the United Arab Emirates. Trump's tariffs and their effect on the Australian economy Trump's tariffs will hurt the Australian economy and lead to trade tensions. Rupert seeking Rudd’s removal The mainstream newsrooms know Australia’s economy is now advancing strongly and rapidly climbing the global tables. They are determined to conceal this from their audiences so that the corrupt and incompetent Coalition can return to serve the rich and powerful corporate sector. Sadly, this is normal. What is abnormal is the current frenzied campaign by Rupert Murdoch ’s global media to undermine Australia’s relations with the USA, discredit the Labor Government and destroy the career of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd . News Corp , with the help of Australia’s craven Opposition Liberal Party and other media organisations, including ABC News , is lobbying to get Albanese to sack his Ambassador to the USA, or the incoming Trump Administration to expel him. Recent headlines at Sky News include: ‘ PM must decide whether Kevin Rudd is “capable” of handling Australia-U.S. relations ’ ; and ‘ New call to sack Australia's U.S. ambassador over Kevin Rudd's record of “slagging off” Republican nominee Donald Trump ’ . The campaign is now global, with Murdoch’s New York Post declaring: ‘Australia’s U.S. Ambassador Kevin Rudd faces calls to resign over disparaging anti-Trump comments’. As comedian and social analyst Jordan Shanks explains brilliantly here , News Corp is seeking revenge for Rudd’s earlier crusade in Australia, together with former Coalition PM Malcolm Turnbull , to restrict the damage done by Murdoch’s continual malicious lies . Facts and figures confirm Murdoch’s minions are continually lying to you News Corp in Australia systematically distorts the ‘news’ it publishes, this time on bankruptcies. News Corp has dredged up critical comments Rudd made before he became Ambassador, including that Trump was “the most destructive president in history” , “a traitor to the West” , “a village idiot” and “incompetent” . Harsh, yes, but accurate. Chances of Murdoch succeeding are low given Trump’s closest buddies have been far more scathing of him. These include JD Vance , Elon Musk , Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio . Clearly, Trump loves converts. Rudd is certainly capable of a form of words to heal any rift, if there was one. So we will see what happens when Trump takes office. Meanwhile, Australians can be mightily satisfied with Ambassador Rudd’s achievements so far. Exports to the USA hit a thumping $6,210 million in the September quarter, up 24.3% on the same period two years ago and an all-time high for any quarter. Now that’s what should be reported! Parts of Scotland are bracing for a second day of disruption with high winds and localised flooding after Storm Bert swept heavy snow and rain across the country. The central belt was hit by more snow that anticipated early on Saturday, causing widespread problems on the roads. The M8 saw long traffic jams and two of the main routes south - the M74 and A68 - were closed for a time due to accidents. Lothian buses suspended all of its 70 routes across Edinburgh and surrounding areas and there was disruption to the rail network. But an amber weather warning for rain and snow in the east of Scotland was downgraded to a yellow warning for rain which will remain in place until 09:00 on Sunday . In an unusual move, the Queensferry Crossing across the Firth of Forth was closed due to the threat of falling ice. Traffic in the area was diverted via the Forth Road Bridge. The diversion was due to remain in place until 01:00 on Sunday. David Bishop from the national road maintenance body Bear Scotland said the closure was due to concerns that ice sticking to the bridge's 70km of cable stays could fall and cause a "significant road traffic incident". It is the first time since 2021 the bridge has closed. All 700 buses in the Lothian Buses fleet ground to a halt for much of the day due to tough road conditions. The company announced services were back to normal early on Saturday evening. Edinburgh sightseeing buses were cancelled and there was disruption on Citylink, McGill's and First services. A dramatic image shared on social media showed a bus which had left the road at Buchlyvie, a village in the Stirling area. George Henry, head of road safety and road policy for Transport Scotland, said the conditions had been "challenging". He said: "We have been treating our roads around the clock, our operating companies have been out and we have used over 240 gritters. "Unfortunately there has been some impacts with various vehicles being stuck due to some vehicles losing traction at various location and we’ve tried to treat that as quickly as we can to minimise the disruption to the motoring public." Mr Henry said particular incidents had impacted the M8 near Livingston and the M74 at various points on Saturday. He added attention is now turning to the risk of localised flooding caused by the temperature rising and snow melting. "There will be lots of surface water so we urge the motoring public when they are returning to the roads to please take care and drive to the conditions they are faced with," he added. Regional flood alerts have been issued for parts of Dumfries and Galloway, west Borders, Central, Tayside, Aberdeenshire, Dundee and Angus regions. While a flood warning urging people to "act now" is in place for the Churchill Barriers in Orkney. A total of 11 SPFL games were called off with kick-off times delayed on another three, including two in the Premiership. One of those called off was a league two match between Cove Rangers and Stenhousemuir, after the away team's bus got stuck in snow at Broxden Services outisde Perth. Over 3,000 homes in England and Wales are without power. Scotland has not been hit as hard, with both Scottish Power and SSE reporting just a few localised faults. The Met Office has warned a rapid thaw and subsequent rain may cause further disruption. A yellow weather warning for rain and snow remains in place for most of Scotland until 09:00 on Sunday. The Highlands and Argyll and Bute will see winds of up to 65mph on Sunday, with a yellow warning has been in place from 12:00 until 00:00. Forecasters say Storm Bert will be quite slow moving and will only start to clear from Monday.Georgia's ombudsman accuses police of torturing pro-EU protestersBrandon Nunez tosses 2 TD passes to help New Mexico State beat Middle Tennessee 36-21

Vikings waive former starting cornerback Akayleb Evans in another blow to 2022 draft classVikings waive former starting cornerback Akayleb Evans in another blow to 2022 draft classRarely does a college basketball game provide such stark contrast between the sport's haves and have-nots as when Jackson State faces No. 9 Kentucky on Friday in Lexington, Ky. While Kentucky claims eight NCAA Tournament crowns and the most wins in college basketball history, Jackson State has never won an NCAA Tournament game and enters the matchup looking for its first win of the season. Impressive tradition and current record aside, Kentucky (4-0) returned no scholarship players from last season's team that was knocked off by Oakland in the NCAA Tournament. New coach Mark Pope and his essentially all-new Wildcats are off to a promising start. Through four games, Kentucky is averaging 94.3 points per game, and with 11.5 3-pointers made per game, the team is on pace to set a school record from long distance. The Wildcats boast six double-figure scorers with transfer guards Otega Oweh (from Oklahoma, 15.0 ppg) and Koby Brea (from Dayton, 14.5 ppg) leading the team. The Wildcats defeated Duke 77-72 on Nov. 12 but showed few signs of an emotional letdown in Tuesday's 97-68 win over a Lipscomb team picked to win the Atlantic Sun Conference in the preseason. Kentucky drained a dozen 3-pointers while outrebounding their visitors 43-28. Guard Jaxson Robinson, held to a single point by Duke, dropped 20 points to lead the Kentucky attack. Afterward, Pope praised his team's focus, saying, "The last game was over and it was kind of on to, ‘How do we get better?' That's the only thing we talk about." Lipscomb coach Lennie Acuff also delivered a ringing endorsement, calling Kentucky "the best offensive Power Four team we've played in my six years at Lipscomb." Jackson State (0-5) and third-year coach Mo Williams are looking for something positive to build upon. Not only are the Tigers winless, but they have lost each game by nine or more points. Sophomore guard Jayme Mitchell Jr. (13.8 ppg) is the leading scorer, but the team shoots just 35.8 percent while allowing opponents to shoot 52.3 percent. The Tigers played on Wednesday at Western Kentucky, where they lost 79-62. Reserve Tamarion Hoover had a breakout game with 18 points to lead Jackson State, but the host Hilltoppers canned 14 3-point shots and outrebounded the Tigers 42-35 to grab the win. Earlier, Williams, who played against Kentucky while a student at Alabama, admitted the difficulties of a challenging nonconference schedule for his team. "Our goal is not to win 13 nonconference games," Williams said. "We're already at a disadvantage in that regard. We use these games to get us ready for conference play and for March Madness." Jackson State has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2007. The Tigers had a perfect regular-season record (11-0) in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2020-21 but lost in the league tournament. Kentucky has never played Jackson State before, but the game is being billed as part of a Unity Series of matchups in which Kentucky hosts members of the SWAC to raise awareness of Historical Black Colleges and Universities and provide funds for those schools. Past Unity Series opponents have been Southern in December 2021 and Florida A&M in December 2022. --Field Level Media
