Wingstop Announces Additional $500 Million Share Repurchase AuthorizationThere is nothing Taylor Swift does better than a surprise song. And fans at the Nov. 21 Eras Tour concert in Toronto —marking the Grammy winner’s second weekend in the city—were treated to a particularly special mashup of two songs that fans have long believed to be about one of Taylor’s famous exes, Joe Jonas . Indeed, when it came time for the acoustic section of the three-hour long concert, Taylor stepped up to the mic with her guitar in hand to sing “Mr. Perfectly Fine," a song from the vault released in 2021 on Fearless (Taylor’s Version) . Taylor then transitioned to “Better Than Revenge” from Speak Now , teasing the audience with , “Time for a little revenge.” That particular track fans believe to be about Joe’s relationship with Camilla Belle , which began shortly after Taylor and Joe’s months-long romance in 2008. “The story starts when it was hot and it was summer and / I had it all, I had him right there where I wanted him,” Taylor sings in the song’s first verse. “She came along, got him alone, and let’s hear the applause / She took him faster than you can say ‘sabotage.’” But those aren’t the only songs inspired by her relationship with the Jonas Brothers member—"Forever & Always,” “Last Kiss” and “Holy Ground” are also believed to be about the summer romance. After all, getting broken up with in a 27-second phone call isn’t something easily shaken off. Yet, in the many years since the pair parted ways, they’ve long buried the hatchet . As Joe—who was married to Taylor’s BFF Sophie Turner until their Sept. 2023 split—told Armchair Expert host Dax Shepard in May 2023, “I'm cool with Taylor. We're cool." The 35-year-old also expressed his hope that he’s back on the good side of Swifites, too. After all, he knows Taylor’s fans remember it all too well. "I hope to think they like me," he added of Taylor’s loyal fan base. "No one f--ks with the Swifties, you know?" But, as he noted, his and Taylor’s parting is now “many, many years removed." For her part, Taylor, too, has noted she maybe needed to calm down following their split. Because in May 2019, when asked what her most rebellious teenage act was, Taylor told Ellen DeGeneres , "Probably when I, like, put Joe Jonas on blast on your show. That was too much. I was 18. We laugh about it now but that was mouthy." Yet, despite the 15 years separating the drama, fans in Toronto were still thrilled to hear the mashup—if the screaming in videos shared to social can be believed. But the Eras Tour hasn’t always been smooth sailing in the year-and-a-half since Taylor embarked on the epic journey. For all the times the 34-year-old has handled onstage malfunctions like a pro, keep reading. A Tech Issue? She's Ready For It It’s cool—that’s what Taylor Swift basically tells ‘em after experiencing a technical difficulty during her show in Stockholm, Sweden. As seen in a video shared on TikTok , the "Cruel Summer" singer told concertgoers to “talk amongst yourselves” as she dealt with an issue with her mic pack. And when she noticed things still weren’t perfectly fine with the device, she unfastened her blue dress—unveiling underneath the gold bra and black shorts she wears elsewhere in her performance—to figure out what was wrong. After a crew member helped her out, Taylor swiftly tied up her dress and resumed the concert like a pro. Bad Blood With a Boot Call it what you want, but it looks like Taylor experienced a bit of a shoe debacle when the heel of one of her bejeweled boots broke during a concert in Rio de Janeiro. But instead of leaving a blank space as to what she’d do next, Taylor simply tore off the bottom of her footwear and tossed it into a crowd —leaving one lucky fan enchanted by the souvenir. Knowing All Too Well How to Solve the Problem And that’s how it works, that’s how you get back on track after an audio issue. As seen in a video shared on social media , Taylor was singing “Love Story” in Mexico when she had a problem with her earpiece that affected her ability to hear where her band was in the song. Instead of jumping into a getaway car, she headed to her guitarist and was soon able to follow along by apparently watching the chords being played. Never Going Out of Style This night was sparkling, and Taylor wasn't going to let it go because of a broken garter. Fans captured the moment The Tortured Poets Department artist noticed the accessory mishap during her concert in Tampa (sing it all together now) Florida!!! So as she was performing “Anti-Hero," she walked over to her backup singers—who were the heroes of the day and helped her get it back on correctly. The Great War With the Bug To the insect that interrupted her Chicago show: Taylor knew you were trouble when you walked, or rather flew, in her mouth. Still, she played it off and didn’t let it bring down the buzz of the evening. “I swallowed a bug. I’m so sorry,” Taylor told the crowd after she began coughing on stage, per a clip shared on social media . “It’s totally fine. It’s just stupid. Oh, delicious. Oh god, is there any chance that none of you saw that?" Long Live That Piano Predicament When Taylor’s piano started mysteriously acting up during her concert in Foxborough, Mass., she probably thought, I can fix it (no really I can) . But after it kept making noises without her even striking a key, she figured the torrential downpour from her earlier show had caused a problem and she knew she wasn't out of the woods. “This has clearly broken my keyboard,” Taylor said, as seen in a video shared on X . “‘Cause it was like literally underwater. I didn’t know how any of the instruments were working last night. So this is broken. I’m just going to get the guitar.” Long Story Short, Her Mic Cut Out You could hear it in the silence—Taylor trying to get her microphone to work. After it cut out during her Chicago show, the music mogul playfully screamed into the microphone to see if anyone could hear her. And while she could’ve stayed, stayed, stayed upset over the malfunction, a video showed her laughing along and poking fun at the incident as the crowd cheered her on. Stage Problems Not Champagne Problems Betty, I won’t make assumptions about why there was a delay in Taylor’s stage dive during her Tampa show. But we think it’s because the floor opening didn’t appear right away— at least according to this video. Still, the stage eventually parted so Taylor could perform her epic stunt. Fearless Moves After Taylor finished performing “Look What You Made Me Do” at her Cincinnati show, she expected a floor door to open and for a platform to lower her beneath the stage. But after the “Love Story” artist hit her mark and nothing happened, she got tired of waiting, wonderin' if it was ever comin’ around. And because her faith in it was fading, she ran off with her dancers to prepare for the next song. Taylor even joked about it on TikTok after footage of the moment spread on social media—writing alongside a video of the moment, “Still swift af boi.” Enchanting Jokes Taylor once sang she was never good at telling jokes, but the punchline for this one was certainly funny. While experiencing a technical difficulty with her earpiece at an Atlanta show, she filled the time gap with a little cat humor. “A cat walks into a library, and the cat says, 'Um, yes I'll have some tuna fish please,'” Taylor told the audience as seen in a video shared by People . "And the lady at the counter says, 'Sir this is a library.' And the cat says, 'Oh, I'm sorry. [And whispers,] I'll have some tuna fish please.'" Not long after, the earpiece issue was fixed. “I'm so sorry,” she continued. “My ears are back. Just at the perfect time because that was like a dad joke from hell."Target Corp. stock underperforms Thursday when compared to competitors
Is the NORAD Santa tracker safe from a government shutdown?
The ongoing Canada Post strike has reached the three-week mark as the two sides continue to trade proposals through a government-appointed mediator. The work stoppage centres around a variety of issues, including disputes over wages and weekend delivery. Here's a snapshot of the issues underpinning the standoff between the Crown corporation and union. Wage increases The Canadian Union of Postal Workers, which represents 55,000 Canada Post workers, said at the start of the strike that wage increases must be kept in line with inflation, with cost-of-living adjustment payments rolled into the basic wage rate. The union initially called for a cumulative wage hike of 24 per cent over four years. CUPW negotiator Jim Gallant said that figure has moved since the start of negotiations, but declined to comment on the union's latest proposal. "We have just lived through the worst cost of living crisis in a generation," the union's national president Jan Simpson said in a post on Tuesday. Canada Post says it has offered what it calls "competitive" wage increases totalling 11.5 per cent over four years and more paid leave. It notes labour costs rose by $242 million in 2023, or about 6.5 per cent, compared with 2022. The organization declined to comment on Thursday. Weekend delivery One of the main snags in negotiations has been a push to expand delivery to the weekend, but the two sides are at odds over how to staff the expansion. Canada Post has pitched seven-day-a-week delivery as a way to boost revenue and "secure the future of the company" as it struggles to compete with other delivery companies. The Crown corporation says it would staff weekend delivery shifts with a mix of new permanent part-time positions and some full-time, which would "create flexibility while not adding significant long-term fixed costs." But the union characterizes Canada Post's proposals as "attacks on full-time work," accusing the Crown corporation of wanting to increase the part-time mix to more than 50 per cent of the workforce. It says it is concerned some part-timers could be scheduled for as few as eight hours per week and wouldn’t be eligible for benefits until they reach 1,000 hours. "Canada Post has every ability today to deliver parcels on the weekend, inside our collective agreement at straight time," Gallant said in an interview. "We think it can be done with full-timers ... We're just saying, 'Instead of hiring 10 part-timers, you can hire three full time." Job security and retirement The union has highlighted a number of its demands for better job security, including a request for "improved protections against technological change." Gallant said Canada Post is "always looking for new technology" that could threaten workers' duties. "This loading and unloading of trucks by robots is one that they're really, really looking at (and) forklifts that drive themselves through a plant," he said. "We're always afraid." When it comes to retirement, CUPW says Canada Post wants new workers to accept a defined contribution pension plan, even though its defined benefit pension plan is overfunded by 140 per cent. "All workers deserve the right to retire with dignity, and for us, that means postal workers — present and future — maintain their defined benefit pension plan," Simpson said. Canada Post says its proposals are "focused on protecting and enhancing what’s important to current employees ... while protecting the defined benefit pension and their job security." Rural service The union has said it wants job security rights for rural and suburban mail carriers in line with those granted to urban postal workers. It has outlined a number of issues affecting its Rural Suburban Mail Carrier bargaining unit, saying it wants an hourly rate system with appropriate time values, union involvement and "safeguards against (Canada Post's) unilateral change." The union says Canada Post must maximize and maintain eight-hour routes for rural workers, grant improved rights for on-call relief employees, and uphold paid meal and rest period rights. It says the Crown corporation must also ensure the bargaining unit's involvement in service expansion projects. Earlier this week, Simpson called on Canada Post to commit to working with the union "to expand services at the post office including postal banking and electric vehicle charging stations." Safer working conditions The union has demanded the full elimination of Canada Post's "separate sort from delivery" system, which entails certain employees spending the entirety of their shifts sorting mail for letter carriers to go out and deliver — as opposed to carriers performing both tasks. It says this system overburdens carriers, who as a result spend more time outdoors and potentially exposed to extreme weather events. "Postal workers suffer the second highest rate of disabling injury among workers under federal jurisdiction, behind only the road transportation sector," Simpson said. "Growing neighbourhood mail volumes and changing work methods like separate sort-from-delivery are only making things worse." The union has also proposed increases to short-term disability program payments and injury on duty payments, along with more paid medical days. The KPMG report reveals that organisations are extracting the most value from machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI and report the ROI from these technologies is either meeting or exceeding expectations. The research, published in the KPMG global AI in finance report , covered 2,900 organisations across 23 countries and built upon research conducted earlier this year across 1,800 organisations in 10 countries. A maturity framework was created to assess respondents into three AI-readiness groups: 24% of organisations qualify as Leaders, while 58% are middle ground Implementers, and 18% are Beginners. KPMG has also developed an AI maturity benchmarking tool designed to help organisations assess their progress in the AI transformation journey. AI deployment grows, Gen AI a key future priority 71% organisations are using AI to some degree in their financial operations. Currently, 41% of them are using AI to a moderate or large degree – and this is predicted to rise to 83% over the next three years. In just six months since the first wave of research, the spread of AI is already visible. Whereas in April 2024, 40% of organisations in the original 10 countries were using traditional AI in their finance operations to a moderate or large degree, this has increased to 45 percent. The use of Gen AI has also grown. The percentage of companies with no intention to use Gen AI has fallen from 6% to just 1% now. Gen AI has become a top priority for the future, with 95% of leaders and 39% of others expecting to selectively or widely adopt it within financial reporting in the next three years. Adoption everywhere KPMG’s research also underlines the extent to which AI is being utilised around the world. While companies in the US, Germany and Japan are well ahead in AI usage, other major economies, such as Italy and Spain, are behind. The same dichotomy is evident in emerging markets, with China and India ahead in AI usage, and Saudi Arabia and the African countries further behind. Adam Scriven, Head of Finance Transformation, Hong Kong at KPMG China , says: “Building AI capability has become an imperative for CFOs and Finance functions in embracing the digital age. It’s critical to recognise that AI is a capability, and not a technology product. We all have to start the AI journey, learn and build better capabilities. KPMG is helping clients establish the right data and systems, modelling and analytics backbone in order to harness the power of AI. KPMG is also co-creating AI solutions with clients to help build capability and go on the journey together.” Alan Yau, Audit Innovation Leader at KPMG China , says: “AI in financial reporting is transforming the industry with enhanced accuracy, efficiency, and real-time insights. As a mega trend, AI enables predictive analytics and data-driven decisions. Upskilling and retaining talent are crucial in this evolution. Organisations must prioritise continuous learning to equip their workforce with AI skills, fostering innovation and adaptability, in order to drive sustainable growth and maintain a competitive edge in the market.” AI usage opening out across finance Companies are turning to AI in every area of corporate finance. Financial reporting is the most widespread usage area, with nearly two-thirds of companies piloting or using AI for reporting, accounting and financial planning. But other areas are following suit: nearly half of companies are now piloting or using AI for treasury and risk management. This can generate better debt management, cash-flow forecasting, fraud detection, credit risk assessment, and scenario analysis in the treasury and risk management functions. Tax management, however, sits slightly further behind. Less than one-third of companies piloting or using AI in this area, although about half are in the planning stage. Leaders moving ahead Leaders are showing the way, with more than three times as many leaders (87%) as others (27%) using AI in finance to a moderate or large degree. Leaders are moving fast and have on average developed six use cases for AI, almost double the number amongst others. Top areas for usage are research and data analysis (85%), fraud detection and prevention (81%), predictive analysis and planning (78%), and using Gen AI for composing documents and other content (75%). Common barriers that all companies encounter include data security vulnerabilities (57%), limited AI skills and knowledge (53%), gathering consistent data (48%) and costs (45%) – but leaders are better able to navigate these through the steps they have taken. Their chief barriers become more advanced ones, such as integrating AI solutions with existing tools and overcoming any residual staff resistance. Reaping the benefits and achieving ROI As the use of AI in finance grows, the dividends multiply. When starting out, finance teams report two to three benefits. By the time they are leaders, that number is seven. Just as the benefits from AI can rise with its usage, so does the potential return on investment. As a result, a remarkable 57% of leaders say ROI is not just meeting but exceeding their expectations. Even amongst less advanced adopters, nearly one third (29%) report the same. Stanley Sum, Head of Digital Enablement at KPMG China , says: “AI is reshaping the finance function, paving the way for both potential opportunities and challenges. Hence, robust AI governance is not merely conducive to meeting regulatory demands, but it stands as an essential component. KPMG assists its clients in their journey to manage risks, promoting transparency and the ethical usage of AI in governance. By implementing mindful supervision now, we help safeguard the future of finance.” Hashtag: #KPMGChina The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. 1 2 3 Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee govt's focus on human capital formation through a bottom-up approach is leading to an information technology boom in the state, attracting top companies like Infosys, according to principal chief adviser to the CM, Amit Mitra. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Rising Asia-BCC&I summit on Friday. According to Mitra, 905 new primary schools, 6,095 upper primary schools, 747 secondary schools and 2,096 higher secondary schools had been set up during Banerjee's time in office. Besides, 52 new govt colleges, 543 private colleges and 19 state-aided universities came up during this period. The CM, during the inauguration of the Infosys campus on Wednesday, had said that 45,000 engineers would graduate every year, with a large chunk of them being computer engineers and this would create the backbone of human capital for the IT industry. Mitra pointed out that every dollar spent on human resources result in an addition to GDP of $11. "In the US, 40% of growth is based on human capital," he said According to him, the east constitutes 12.8% of the GDP of the country and this will only increase. "Bengal constitutes 44.3% of the GDP of the east, so once the state grows, the region would grow as well," Mitra added. The summit was also attended by BCC&I president Arnab Basu, Rising Asia president Aniruddha Lahiri, Patton MD Sanjay Budhia and Luxmi Group MD Rudra Chatterjee.Malaysia gears up for ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship with new logo, key prioritiesNORAD's Santa tracker was a Cold War morale boost. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eric Bieniemy's return to UCLA lasted only one season. The Bruins let go of Bieniemy on Thursday after fielding one of the nation's worst offenses this season. It didn't take head coach DeShaun Foster long to find a replacement. Indiana quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri will become the new Bruins offensive coordinator, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Bruins had not yet announced the decision. Sunseri spent one season at Indiana after following Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti from James Madison. Cignetti and Sunseri worked together for four seasons, the first three with the Dukes, who made the most successful transition from FCS to FBS in history. Bieniemy was hired as associate head coach and offensive coordinator shortly after Foster was hired as head coach in February. Bieniemy was also on the Bruins staff from 2003-05 as running backs coach. Jason Fletcher, Bieniemy's agent, said in a statement that Bieniemy planned to stay only one season in Westwood and termed it a “mutual parting of the ways.” However, Bieniemy signed a two-year contract at UCLA and did have a retention bonus if he was on staff for the 2025 season. "After interviewing for head coaching jobs last year, he wanted to stay active and busy," Fletcher said. “So, he decided to go help out Deshaun Foster, who is like his little brother, at UCLA as opposed to sitting out a year.” Out of 134 Football Bowl Subdivision teams, UCLA was 117th in total offense (328.8 yards per game), 126th in scoring (18.4 points per game) and had the nation's fifth-worst rushing attack (86.6 yards per game). The Bruins — 5-7 in their first season in the Big Ten after qualifying for a bowl the last three years — were the sixth Power Five team since 2000 that didn't score at least 20 points in their first six games. Players also said early in the season that Bieniemy's scheme was difficult to grasp and that play calls could be too wordy. Bieniemy was a two-time Super Bowl champion offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs but his last two stops have not gone well. He was Washington's offensive coordinator in 2023 but was not retained after Ron Rivera was fired. Bieniemy said in an email to ESPN earlier this year that he was not fired by Washington and that he received NFL offers to coach running backs or be a passing game coordinator. However, when asked during UCLA's spring practice to explain those remarks or what his other job prospects were, he refused to do so. “What I’m going say is this: I’m here coaching at UCLA. All that other stuff, you could go talk to the Commanders. I’ll leave it just like that,” he said. Bieniemy wasn’t retained by new Commanders coach Dan Quinn, who replaced Rivera. Despite his success in Kansas City, Bieniemy hasn’t landed a heading coach job, even though he’s interviewed with more than half of the NFL’s 32 teams. Fletcher said: "The plan was always to return to the NFL in 2025, and he’s looking forward to the opportunities ahead.” Sunseri's immediate priority will be to stem any further losses to the transfer portal. Quarterback Justyn Martin — who was on track to compete for the starting job following the graduation of Ethan Garbers — and running back T.J. Harden have already entered the portal. At Indiana, Sunseri worked closely with Kurtis Rourke, a transfer from Mid-American Conference school Ohio. Rourke went on to have one of the best seasons in Hoosiers history as No. 9 Indiana (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten, No. 9 CFP) broke single-season school records for victories and conference wins and appears set to make its CFP debut in two weeks. Sunseri, like Cignetti, also coached previously at Alabama. Sunseri served as a graduate assistant for the Crimson Tide in 2019 and 2020 after previous stints at Florida State and Tennessee. The 35-year-old Sunseri also spent three seasons with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, winning a Grey Cup title as a rookie in 2013 following his college career at Pittsburgh. The advance by HTS and Turkish -backed rebels in Syria suggests that Turkey is playing its cards before US president-elect Donald Trump takes office , driven by its existential fear of a Kurdish enclave in northern Syria. Turkey had been frustrated with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's repeated refusal to come to the negotiating table and meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan, although both Syrian and Turkish defense and intelligence chiefs have met regularly in Russia. Al-Assad has been negotiating through his ministers while relying on the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Russia for the diplomatic push. Yet, while the finger of blame has been pointed at Turkey, the Israel factor cannot be discounted . Just days before the fall of Aleppo, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened Syria against facilitating aid to Hezbollah - and it is no coincidence that this crisis began shortly after the Lebanon ceasefire was finalized . It was almost timed perfectly to suggest that there has been some sort of nod to the armed groups in Idlib . Some Syrian opposition groups have acknowledged that Israel's ceasefire helped them. Turkish-backed groups went so far as to thank Israel and further said they want good relations with Tel Aviv. A key difference But while many observers assert that Assad is on the ropes, his main backers, Russia and Iran, are already flexing their military and diplomatic muscle - and unlike the previous time Assad was in trouble in 2012, major players in the region, including Saudi Arabia , the UAE , Jordan and Iraq , are publicly backing Syria’s sovereignty . Iraq said it shall help Syria militarily as well. With the exception of Qatar, all Arab ambassadors are back in Damascus - and since the fall of Aleppo, there has been a reaffirmation of support for Syria, marking a key difference from when the conflict was viewed as a civil war. Indeed, as Aleppo was falling, the UAE and US were on the verge of potentially removing sanctions on Syria. Assad must now finally take their advice on rapprochement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan before the situation spirals out of control. There has been much talk of increased tensions in the occupied Golan Heights, with Israel violating the 1973 buffer zone as it ordered some army units to move out of the demarcated UN line since 1973, almost as if they anticipated trouble to create a buffer zone like in Lebanon along the Litani river. At the same time, there has been a quiet flurry of diplomatic activity in recent months, from the Italians to the Saudis , placing Assad center-stage for a potential new shakeup in the Levant . A number of EU countries, led by Italy, are calling for a major rethink of ties with Syria, spurred by the need to engage Assad for their own migration and security issues. Erdogan is almost begging Assad for a meeting , and with the UAE already increasing aid to Syria to help displaced Lebanese people, Damascus is set to regain a key role in the region after the dust settles in Beirut and Gaza . Syria has carefully maintained a low profile during Israel's genocidal war on Gaza. Whilst being a key member of the axis of resistance for the last 40 years, Syria has not been averse to talking or doing deals with Israel. It has at numerous times almost solved the issue of Golan, so it knows the balance. US President Donald Trump’s new Arab envoy , Massad Boulos, is a political ally of Assad’s best friend in Lebanon, Suleiman Frangieh, who is one of the key candidates for the presidency. Those who know the history of Lebanon and the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) will know just how critical Syria is to the delicate balance of the region’s unorthodox relationships, which are not quite as black and white as they seem. Everything is not simply what faraway DC analysts label as “Shia versus Sunni” . A recent report outlines how, in the lead-up to Iran’s 1979 revolution, Syria refused safe passage to Iran’s Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to avoid further antagonizing Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Prominent Syrian journalist Ibrahim Hamidi goes further in explaining the nuances of what Syria was trying to achieve in Lebanon and Palestine, as Syrian troops and allies sometimes clashed with Hezbollah to protect their own interests. But the Israelis know that for any final peace with the Palestinian people, there must first be an understanding with Damascus. Similarly, Hamas’s recent U-turn on its relationship with Syria - alongside Israeli support for Syrian armed groups against Assad, and Tel Aviv’s now- famous contention that there would have been no Syrian uprising "if Assad made peace with us" - show how intricately linked the Palestinian file is to Syria’s endgame for Israel. Unconfirmed footage of Al Qaeda cutout HTS terrorists celebrating capturing a Syrian🇸🇾 Army base in Hama Israel, the US, and Turkey have reignited the dirty war on Syria through their terrorist proxies, as Bashar Al-Assad’s forces and allies scramble to put together a... pic.twitter.com/TIoR8YnjeJ To be clear, Syria is under no illusions: half the country has been reduced to rubble . But its strength has never been an all-out powerful military or strategic arms advantage. It is what author David Lesch has called Syria’s ability to punch above its weight . It is Syria’s ability to outlast its opponents and ride out the storm , rather than beating its opponents into submission. Assad, despite Israel’s frequent strikes on Iranian targets in Damascus, has not taken any retaliatory actions that could further raise Israel’s ire. Pivot from Iran to Gulf Similarly, according to Hamidi, who is one of the well-informed Syrian journalists, Syria has clamped down on the activities of Hezbollah and Iran-affiliated militias in the country, with Russian help - leading some analysts to question the viability of Iran-Syria ties. While Iran is not quitting Syria, Damascus has other options, as the UAE and Saudi Arabia are helping Syria with the influx of Lebanese refugees, and the EU views strengthened ties with Damascus as a potential way to mitigate its own migration problems. Perhaps the most important element of Assad’s pivotal role in the current mess is Erdogan’s eagerness to meet him. Assad has so far rejected these overtures, saying it would not be an easy path to reconciliation with Turkey. Erdogan, however, has been pleading with Russia to bring Syria to the table. This rejection appears to have prompted Turkish-backed groups to reshuffle the cards in northern Aleppo . The big "so what" from all of this is that even in Syria’s diminished capacity, after more than a decade of war, almost every month we are seeing more ambassadors and global leaders return to Damascus. They see Assad as the best option not just for Syria, but also to help both the Syrian and Lebanese refugees -who fled Lebanon during the recent war - and to resolve the deadlock of the Lebanese presidency. More than a year ago, France acquiesced to a plan to push Assad’s best friend, Frangieh, as the best candidate for president in Lebanon, against the wishes of other European allies. Amid the reordering of Lebanon, one thing that has stood the test of time is Syria’s ability to remain relevant, despite all the damage it has incurred. While Syria depends on Russia and Iran militarily, its global diplomatic support has increased, from Italy, to Saudi Arabia, to China - and this will eventually decide the future of Syria, and the region.
A digital wallet for farmers in New Zealand developed by and has won a Constellation Research SuperNova Award for its secure data-sharing ecosystem based on verifiable credentials. The Trust Alliance New Zealand (TANZ) Digital Farm Wallet lets farmers store data on farm boundaries and greenhouse gas emissions, along with credentials like their farm ID, and was recognized in the “Digital Safety, Governance, Privacy, and Cybersecurity” category. The development partners say the TANZ Digital Farm Wallet could transform the country’s agriculture industry through decentralized identity, increasing supply chain transparency and allowing farmers and consumers to confirm attributes like organic certification. Each company is also working on applying existing protocols and standards for digital identities and the wallets that hold and present them more broadly. Indicio set out its involvement in developing and supporting the OpenID for Verifiable Credentials (OID4VC) and OpenID for Verifiable Presentations (OID4VP) standards in an article on its website earlier this month. The OpenID protocols are key to making decentralized identity accessible and practical for adoption in the real world, according to . Anonyome Labs co-presented a paper on the use of device hardware security modules (HSMs) by existing digital identity wallets to meet the requirements for EU Digital Identity Wallets at the in Brisbane, Australia in late-November. The paper, presented in collaboration with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), argues that digital identity wallet applications can feasibly support the EUDI Wallet technical (ARF), but with some tradeoffs in terms of algorithmic compatibility, user experience and performance. | | | | | | | | |

Qubetics enhances its ecosystem with dVPN integration, Chainlink solidifies its role as the leading decentralized oracle network, and Ripple makes waves with its RLUSD stablecoin. Here’s why these cryptocurrencies are worth your attention now. Qubetics: Transforming Web3 with Privacy-Centric Services Qubetics is strengthening its position in the Web3 space by integrating a decentralised VPN (dVPN) into its ecosystem. This addition elevates the blockchain's capabilities by promoting privacy and security across decentralised applications, including DeFi platforms, NFT marketplaces, and decentralised storage solutions. By ensuring private and secure connections, Qubetics dVPN aligns with the principles of autonomy and decentralisation central to Web3. Currently, $TICS tokens are priced at $0.034, with over $7.3 million raised, 10,900+ holders, and 363 million tokens sold. As the next presale phase approaches, analysts predict a post-presale price of $0.25 per token, offering early adopters a compelling ROI of 630.27%. Qubetics’ integration of privacy-enhancing tools like dVPN positions it as a forward-thinking blockchain solution, making it a strong contender for investment. Chainlink: Empowering Decentralized Applications with Reliable Data Chainlink (LINK) is at the forefront of decentralised Oracle technology, bridging the gap between blockchains and real-world data. Chainlink enables smart contracts to interact seamlessly with external systems, including APIs and payment gateways, by providing secure and tamper-proof oracles. This functionality is essential for decentralised applications (dApps) that depend on accurate and secure data inputs. Chainlink has become indispensable in decentralised finance (DeFi), where real-time, reliable data is critical for executing smart contracts. While new entrants to the oracle space introduce competition, Chainlink’s extensive adoption and reputation for security position it as a market leader. Investors looking to support the infrastructure layer of blockchain technology will find Chainlink’s robust utility appealing. Ripple: RLUSD Stablecoin Revolutionizes Cross-Border Payments Ripple has introduced RLUSD, a stablecoin designed to rival USDT and USDC, and it’s already being hailed as a "game changer" by industry leaders. Andre Casterman, a veteran of SWIFT, praised the stablecoin’s potential to transform cross-border payments, particularly for corporations and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs). RLUSD was launched after receiving approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services and is designed to accelerate settlement times and reduce business costs. With Ripple's established reputation in the cross-border payments sector, RLUSD is expected to become a preferred choice for corporates and working capital lenders seeking efficient financial solutions. Conclusion Qubetics, Chainlink, and Ripple represent the innovation and diversification driving the cryptocurrency market forward.
